Non-Ford
Brakediscs.
Updated January 10th, 2003.
Here you can read about how non-Ford brakediscs work, compared to the original Ford ones.
I must say that I have overrated the Black Diamond brakediscs some.
What still is correct though is the initial feeling of the brakesdiscs: After the
second pair of Original Ford brakediscs in 6 months warped I installed cross drilled
Black diamond discs. The difference was like night and day: Ford discs: felt a small
amount of judder when braking already after a few days, increased to the point where
the steering wheel shook even when not braking. Ok stopping power, but required a
firm press on the pedal. Black diamond discs: Was very good, Braking requires much
less effort than with original discs, it's very easy to make ABS activate, even
on dry tarmac.
But then I had to brake quite hard a few times in a row and after that I noticed a
small amount of judder when braking, this increased gradually up to a great deal of judder.
That means that the discs are really good for normal driving,
but when it's time for some really hard braking they will not be good enough.
There is only one real good solution that will last and that is AP-Racing. Get
yourself the 330mm discs and 4-pot calipers aand be done with it.
Still there is EBC discs and pads witch carry a guarantee against warping. I have
not tried them but they but they might be ok for those who can't afford the real thing.
